Torrox Celebrates Tourism Day with Juan Magán and Fireworks
Torrox celebrated World Tourism Day on Saturday 26 September with sports, cultural activities, coastal fireworks, and a free live concert by Juan Magán.
The neighbouring municipality of Torrox, just a short drive west along the coast from Nerja, marked World Tourism Day in spectacular fashion on Saturday, 26 September. The celebration gathered residents and international travellers for a dynamic schedule of cultural, sporting, and leisure festivities across town.
The grand finale unfolded later in the evening with an open-air celebration at the Balcón Mirador, crowned by a free live concert from renowned Spanish artist Juan Magán and a vibrant coastal fireworks display that lit up the Mediterranean waters.
A Seaside Celebration in the Axarquía
Torrox consistently stands out as a welcoming destination along the eastern Costa del Sol, boasting an enviable coastal promenade and scenic vantage points. For World Tourism Day, the town hall developed a multifaceted programme featuring sports events, local cultural showcases, and entertainment tailored to both locals and holidaymakers visiting the Axarquía region.
Throughout Saturday, 26 September, public spaces across Torrox welcomed participants of all ages. Activities highlighted the town's seaside heritage, promoting outdoor leisure alongside community culture.
Juan Magán and Coastal Fireworks
The atmosphere shifted into high gear as twilight settled over the shoreline. Crowds gathered at the Balcón Mirador for the evening tourism gala, an idyllic setting overlooking the sea. The highlight of the night was an energetic free concert by electro-latino star Juan Magán, whose chart-topping hits drew music lovers and visitors from across the region, including many coming over from nearby Nerja.
Following the musical performance, the coastline erupted in colour with an impressive fireworks show, reflecting across the waves and offering spectators a memorable end to the day's festivities.
Visiting Torrox from Nerja
For travellers based in Nerja, events in Torrox Costa are within very easy reach. Torrox lies approximately ten to fifteen minutes away by car along the coastal N-340 or the A-7 motorway, and regular local bus services connect Nerja and Torrox throughout the day. Major community events like World Tourism Day offer an excellent reason to venture beyond Nerja’s town limits to experience the broader cultural rhythm of eastern Málaga.
