Free: walking the Río Chillar

Walking up the riverbed costs nothing and needs no booking. Bring water shoes or sandals that cope with wet stone, start early in the day and expect to wade most of the way. In summer the route can close when fire risk is high — check before you go.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book the Nerja Caves in advance?+

Yes, it is wise. The cave admits a limited number of visitors per time slot and popular times sell out, especially in summer and at weekends.

Which trip works best with children?+

The boat trip along the Maro-Cerro Gordo cliffs suits most ages, with swimming and snorkelling from the boat. The Nerja Caves are a good choice when it is too hot outside.

How do I get to Frigiliana?+

Frigiliana sits about six kilometres up in the hills. The local bus runs several times a day from Nerja and a taxi takes roughly fifteen minutes. Many visitors take a guided half-day tour combining the village with the caves.
