Ronda Opens Spectacular New Walkway Beneath Puente Nuevo
Ronda has completed its landmark Tajo gorge path, opening a thrilling walkway directly beneath the arches of the historic Puente Nuevo.
Ronda has long stood as one of the most memorable day trips from the Costa del Sol and Nerja. Now, visitors have an entirely new way to experience its dramatic landscape. The historic mountain town has officially completed its ambitious Tajo gorge path project, introducing a walkway that takes explorers directly beneath the legendary Puente Nuevo.
The newly completed second phase of the path was formally inaugurated by Andalusian regional president Juanma Moreno, officially welcoming the general public from 16 September 2026.
A Dramatic New Vantage Point
For centuries, travelers admired the sheer scale of the Tajo gorge from clifftop viewpoints around the parador and the Alameda del Tajo, or looked up from distant hiking tracks at the base of the canyon. This new installation shifts the entire experience, running deep within the chasm and passing underneath the towering stone arches of the 18th-century bridge itself.
Suspended against the rugged vertical rock faces, the walkway provides an intimate look at the geological formations and the monumental engineering of Puente Nuevo. The perspective from directly below highlights the sheer scale of the stone pillars bridging the two halves of Ronda.
Planning a Visit from Nerja
For travelers based in Nerja, Ronda makes for an exceptional day-long excursion into the Andalusian interior. The scenic drive heads west along the coast past Málaga before climbing inland through the Serranía de Ronda, offering sweeping mountain views along the journey.
Given the interest surrounding this major new attraction, pairing a morning stroll through Ronda’s historic old quarter with a descent along the new gorge path provides a well-rounded itinerary. Visitors planning to walk the route should wear comfortable, sturdy footwear suited for canyon paths and stairs.
